The eco-track of Dão

It is the most “inland” district of the country, the only one that borders neither the sea nor Spain, covering the region called Viseu Dão Lafões and extending beyond this mainly to the north, bordering the Douro River on a vast extent. Dominated by the mountainous grandeur of the region, however, water is its main protagonist, discovering rivers and streams in deep green valleys and perhaps the largest concentration of spas in the country. The rural charm of the villages that punctuate the landscape (including the so-called Aldeia de Manhouce), the Dão and Douro vineyards, is also joined by the beautiful Eco-track of Dão, which follows the river between the mountains of Estrela and Caramulo. It is this old railway line that we will follow from Viseu, cycling almost always downhill, on a firm and comfortable pavement, in order to have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent landscape in peace.
