Experience the Traditions of the Schist Villages

This program combines delicious flavors with the historical schist houses; a hiking trail, two craftsmen workshops and a visit to the Living Science of the Forest Center. Naturtejo Geopark of the South Plateau is the first Portuguese Geopark recognized by UNESCO. It has the more astonishing sites to explore, a genuine hospitality and tales that cross times. This program is designed for families and groups. Day 1 Arrival at the accommodation. Day 2 Breakfast at the accommodation. Morning: Visit the Schist Village of Alvaro, perched by high upon the imposing river, and walking the hiking trail “in the Zêzere Meandres”, ending with a taste of the delicious flavours of the Mountain Tastings (Oleiros). Lunch in a restaurant with original regional gastronomy. Afternoon: Visit to the Schist Village of Figueira, once defended from wolf attacks. Visit the Village of Oliveiras and its craftsmen workshop, passing by the River Beach of Fróia and experience the Living Science of the Forest Centre with a workshop of wax candles and honey tasting made from native flowers. Day 3 Breakfast at the accommodation. Morning: Visit the Schist Villages of Sarzedas and Martim Branco – between the heaths and the mountains, from the ancient medieval village to the picturesque village next to the stream. Afternoon: end of the activity.
