The route starts at Porto city, a renowned place for its Port wine and cellars of this wonderful wine and a vibrant city full of history and cultural site to unveil. Porto is also classified by the UNESCO as a World Heritage site. From the narrow streets and alleys of the old town, the route crosses along the coastline beautiful beach resorts and small towns giving an insight over the Portuguese culture and life. On the way, you’ll cross the São Jacinto Dunes Natural Reserve and the Ria de Aveiro, the estuary of the Vouga river which characterises part of the region arriving at Aveiro City, our “little Venice” with its channels and “moliceiros” boats. To the south the way crosses immense forest of pine trees, making solitude crossing the dunes system a big part of the day, stopping in small beaches to have a drink and watch the sea and contemplate. Continuing your trip you will visit typical fisherman villages and the most well preserved medieval village in Portugal, Óbidos. Discover Sintra – also a UNESCO World Heritage site, a village of castles and palaces. The trip finishes passing by the most western point in Europe “Roca” Cape. We promise an epic end for this wonderful trip.

Day 1

Arrival Welcome at Porto or Lisboa airport.

Transfer from the airport to Porto (00h20) or (03h00) by train from Lisbon to Porto.

Porto, a vibrant city, the old town and its granitic houses and narrow streets are ideal for a stroll. The old pear and its surroundings from the 14th century, the old ramparts and the Sé Cathedral from the 12-13th and its the magnificent view of the Douro and old town Porto. Day 2

Bike from Porto to Espinho  – (21 km, + 100 m, Road)

The day starts from Porto through the old town, crossing the Don Luis Bridge, designed and planned by Gustave Eiffel. Almost all the way to Espinho one will follow a cycling path near the coastline, crossing numerous small beaches, Praia de Valadares, Francelos and Miramar are good spots to take a bath and enjoy the sun. Praia de Miramar is worth a stop to visit a small chapel by the sea, just off the waves, the Church os Senhor da Pedra. Lodging in a hotel.

Day 3

Bike from Espinho to Aveiro – (63 km, + 200 m, Road)

An easy and enjoyable day by the sea, riding flat. Pine forest trees and the Ria the Aveiro are sceneries that make the day before arriving at Aveiro. The River Vouga delta (Ria de Aveiro) was formed in the 15th century, with the retreat of the Atlantic Ocean. Nowadays it’s a favourite spot for shellfish catching and to enjoy a wide range of water sports.

The dunes of São Jacinto are a Natural Reserve, walks along the beach at the seafront are excellent and bird lovers will be delighted  to watch the wildlife. It’s at São Jacinto that one will take the ferry to Aveiro.

Day 4

Bike from Aveiro to Praia do Mira – (40 km, + 150 m, Road)

The days start going out of Aveiro and its canals to cross to the dunes that are close to the Ria the Aveiro. Following this huge dune by the inner road one will cross small inland villages looking towards the calm waters of the Ria. Just a few meters from the road, we recommend a stop to climb the dunes and take a look at the more lively scenery of the ocean.  At the end of the water arm of the Ria, the path enters a small farm field and vegetable gardens until one arrives at Praia da Mira village. Day 5

Bike from Praia do Mira to Figueira da Foz – (57 km + 400 m, Road)

One day of solitude crossing one of the largest dune region of the country that is covered in pine tree forest. Here you can experience loneliness while cycling through this immense green scenery, roads are clear of traffic and distances between points are much longer than previous days. Near Figueira da Foz, comes the big climb of the day, cycling up to the Serra da Boa Viagem and then down to the lighthouse of Cape Mondego, follow the slopes of the hill into Figueira da Foz and its impressive wide and long sandy beach. Day 6

Bike from Figueira da Foz to São Pedro de Moel – (67 km + 500 m, Road)

The day starts crossing the bridge over de Mondego River and for some kilometres follow a once important road. Arriving near Carrico one will enter a cycling path, the Atlantic Way, that leads you through the Pinhal de Leiria – a pine tree forest which plantation was ordered by our king D. Dinis of the XIV century to guarantee timber to build the fleets that would sail to discover the world and the maritime way to India. The cycling path crosses this immense pine forest and numerous small beaches on the way . At times, the feeling of loneliness is immense. Distances are not as long as the day before.

Places like Praia do Pedrogão, Praia da Vieira and São Pedro de Moel are oasis in the scenery of covered pine forest dunes. Lodging at a three-star hotel.

Day 7

Bike from São Pedro de Moel to Óbidos ( 67 km +  850 m, Road)

Ride pine forests passing through beautiful beaches. Visit Nazaré, a typical Portuguese fisherman village. Scenic ride close to the ocean. Along the way, the route turns inland towards Óbidos, one of most beautiful and well preserved medieval fortified village of Portugal, with an incredible castle on the top (67km). Lodging in a four-star hotel.

Day 8

Bike from Óbidos to Peniche ( 52 km + 550 m, Road)

Ride back to the coast passing a beautiful lagoon. Explore Peniche, a city full of fishing traditions and the Peninsula of Peniche. Discover and admire incredible rock formations on the cliffs along the way to the beautiful Carvoeiro Cape (52km).

Day 9

Bike from Peniche to Ericeira (73km, +900m, Road)

Ride along the ocean and at times inland on a hillier region along farm fields of varied crops and hues. Cross along the way Portugal famous surf paradise beaches.

Day 10

Bike from Ericeira to Sintra ( 38 km + 900 m, Road)

Ride follows the coast line with  more beautiful beaches and small villages. Enter Sintra region cycling on a constantly winding up and down route along the Serra. Visit an Incredible Palace (38km).

Day 11

Bike from Sintra to Cascais ( 41 km + 1,100 m, Road)

Ride along the Serra and visit and incredible old Capuchin Monk Monastery. Ride to Roca Cape, the most western point of Europe’s mainland. Finish your ride on the scenic easy cycling path along the coast to get to Cascais, a beautiful city by the Ocean (41km).
