Salto do Cabrito Hike | Azores
4km walk through São Miguel Island
This is a circular walk that begins near the Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande. It has a length of 4km and is a relatively easy walking route although it has some steep slopes. In this trail our guide will give interesting information about the water resources of the island of São Miguel. This is a great opportunity to be in touch with nature and at the same time discover how it becomes very useful for our life. In particular, the trail crosses all the sites of fundamental importance of the Fajã Redonda Water Plant.
The first part of the trail is to descend on dirt with a lush nature until you reach the Salto do Cabrito Hydroelectric Power Station. And this is where we will enjoy the waterfall Salto do Cabrito. You will have time to take pictures. Then we will go up some stairs with a very steep slope and along the way we will cross through an iron walkway. For those who have vertigo should be prepared to overcome this challenge!
But it is a pedestrian route that is very worthwhile because this walkway is very close to the river and we even have the feeling that we are involved by nature After passing by the Fajã do Redondo Hydroelectric Power Station, formerly very important for
supply some municipalities of the island of São Miguel, we return to the starting point - Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande. We will still have time for a short break before we return to Ponta Delgada.
