40th Fires Race and 19th Fires Race

The bonfires race had its first edition in 1980, integrated in the youth games of Peniche. About 80 athletes participated in this event, mostly from Peniche. It soon became clear that this event was in a position to become a classic of road races, given the symbiosis between the fascination of the night race itself, lit by the bonfires and the great free party of the sardine, after the end of the race. Run at night! For some it attracts immediately for the absence of traffic and the calm and the silence reigning. Run by the sea! On a marginal road lighted by bonfires and June moonlight. A sardine! To finish a tour to Peniche, in the time of the Popular Saints. This is the proposal that Peniche makes to you last Saturday in June.
