Trail Run on the island of São Jorge – Azores

The “CALHETA TRAIL RUN 2023”, will take place on 15 July 2023, in the municipality of Calheta on the island of São Jorge – Azores. This event is an organisation of Aventour Azores Adventures in partnership with the Municipality of Calheta, inserted in the July Festival 2023, with two modalities: The TRAIL RUN has a length of 35 km and consists of the transversal crossing of the Island of São Jorge in the Azores archipelago. The route is carried out on mixed terrain of tarmac (5%), dirt and pedestrian trails (95%). It will start at Fajã dos Cubres at 10:30 am, in the northern part of the island and end in the village of Calheta, in the southern part of the island of São Jorge. Positive accumulated gradient of 1,340 metres and negative accumulated gradient of 1,338 metres. The WALK has a length of 16 km. The route is carried out on mixed terrain of tarmac (15%), dirt and pedestrian trails (75%). It will start in the parish of Norte Pequeno at 11:30 am, in the northern part of the island and end in the village of Calheta, in the southern part of the island of São Jorge. Positive accumulated gradient of 305m and negative accumulated gradient of 768m. RACE PROGRAMME Day 14 July 2023 20h00 / 21h:00 – Opening of the secretariat (Aventour Azores Adventures kiosk – Vila da Calheta pier); 15th July 2023 09h00 – Concentration of participants at the pier of Vila de Calheta, next to the Aventour Azores Adventures Kiosk; 09h15 – Technical meeting (Aventour Azores Adventures kiosk – Calheta village pier); 09h30 – Departure of the event’s transports from Vila de Calheta to Fajã dos Cubres; 10h30 – Start of the TRAIL RUN – Fajã dos Cubres; 11h30 – Start of the WALK – Parish of Norte Pequeno; 18h00 – Awards ceremony – Stage of the Festivities – Festevial de Julho 2023.
