Walking in Lagoa do Fogo | Azores

Lagoa do Fogo is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved lagoons on the island of São Miguel. It is one of the main sites and one of the two Nature Reserves of this island where you can better appreciate the endemic vegetation of the Azores. This is a unique trail because it allows the descent to the beach of Lagoa do Fogo, recognized as one of the 7 wonders of Portugal, in the category “Wild beaches”. We start the trip with the pick-up in Ponta Delgada at 9:00 (if you prefer in the morning) or 14h (if you want to do this walk in the afternoon). The Lagoa do Fogo is undoubtedly a place of great interest to people visiting the island. The trail starts at the viewpoint of Lagoa do Fogo down a narrow path of dirt, until the edge of the lagoon. Once near the water, we can then walk on the peculiar white pumice sand. During the pedestrian route of Lagoa do Fogo, the guide will give information about the characteristics, vegetation and conservation projects of this lagoon and the values of this Natural Reserve. Take the opportunity to listen to the extraordinary nature and enjoy all the endemic flora around you. The way back is done by the same trail. In total there is about 3km of walk. At the end of the route, we will return to the city of Ponta Delgada. Possibility to extend the route to make the most complete track of 11km of Lagoa do Fogo (7 hours – 50 euros)
