Through the Mountains of Porto

The district of Porto, between the river Ave to the North and the river Douro to the South, reveals its historical and cultural importance as the Historic Center of the Douro, the Luis I Bridge and the Monastery of Serra do Pilar to include the list of World Heritage of UNESCO. Port wine appreciated worldwide, together with the Rabelo Boats and the Caves installed on the riverside in Vila Nova de Gaia and Douro above, are witnesses of the great wealth that the Douro valley and its vineyards represent. Climbing the Douro by boat is almost mandatory, exploring the monumental valley and its Quintas and Wineries, discovering the handicrafts of Ansiães, or diverting to Tâmega to Marco de Canavezes (Tongóbriga). Here we travel back in time to the Roman period, to meet the remains of the Archaeological Station of Freixo and the thermal water of Caldas de Canavezes.
