THE CULTURAL HERITAGES OF CASTELO RODRIGO | Historical Villages

In the genuine territories of the Raiano Interior, along Europe’s oldest border, lies the history of the formation and defence of Portugal as a nation. Exploring the stories, nature, traditions and charms of this territory is like reliving the adventures of our ancestors. TRY Portugal has prepared an exclusive weekend for you, so that you can discover the old and little-known places of the municipality of Almeida, coinciding with the Event “12 in Network” of the Historical Villages of Portugal. DAY 1 – Friday – August 27th – ARRIVAL AT CASTLE RODRIGO On the first day of our short break, participants are welcomed and checked in at the selected accommodation. Schedule available soon enough. DAY 2 – Saturday 28 August – CASTELO RODRIGO On the second day in the morning, we start the “12 Villages in Network” program with the motto EXODUS – Jewish Roots. 10h – 19h – Games Programming for the Whole Family (Escape room and others) Location: Rua da Cadeia 10:30 – Presentation of the video-visit platform Beginning at the Porta do Sol Creation: CARB, Zero Graus and Rolando Ferreira. Director of Actors by Miguel Fonseca CARB, in partnership with Zero Graus (video) and Rolando Ferreira (sound), produce digital content based on the contents of the Meetings with History (staged visits), but that allows the virtual face-to-face visit (complementary to on-site visitation) and the visit to the Village from anywhere. Using 360º video technology, and relying on the capture and editing of sound and sound from Rolando Ferreira, it is intended to create a highly immersive visitation experience. On the day of the event will be released the contents, accessible only on-site (next to the Door of the Sun and at points marked in the Village through Qrcode). Thereafter, the Platform will be available online with access from anywhere. 11:00 – Workshop #1 – Knowledge and Flavours – Bread Location: Forno Comunitário Involving all the commercial spaces of the Village, it is intended, with this sequence of workshops, to value the local products and their producers, as well as the know-how associated with production. In this activity, each space will invite one or more producers of this delicacy of the region and, making the delight of all, to accompany the explanation of the production processes, we invite the audience to taste this rich endogenous capital. 13:00 – Gastronomic action #1 Chef Álvaro Costa – Food of the season | Show cooking Location: Community Cuisine In this Showcooking, Chef Álvaro Costa will start from the menus created under the Historical Villages Project of Portugal “Recipes that Tell Stories” to perform a sequence of dishes to enhance products producers and local cuisine is a key objective. For security reasons, access will be restricted, but this moment will be recorded and broadcast in deferred on the associated digital platforms to the event. 15:30 – Workshop #2 – Knowledge and Flavours – Olive Oil Location: Courtyard of the Castle Involving all the commercial spaces of the Village, it is intended, with this sequence of workshops, to value the local products and their producers, as well as the know-how associated with production. In this activity, each space will invite one or more producers of this delicacy of the region and, making the delight of all, to accompany the explanation of the production processes, we invite the audience to taste this rich endogenous capital. 16:30 – Workshop #3 – Knowledge and Flavours – The Almond Location: Sabores da Geninha Involving all the commercial spaces of the Village, it is intended, with this sequence of workshops, to value the local products and their producers, as well as the know-how associated with production. In this activity, each space will invite one or more producers of this delicacy of the region and, making the delight of all, to accompany the explanation of the production processes, we invite the audience to taste this rich endogenous capital. 17:30 – Workshop #4 – Knowledge and Flavours – Honey Location: Ginjinha do Castelo Involving all the commercial spaces of the Village, it is intended, with this sequence of workshops, to value the local products and their producers, as well as the know-how associated with production. In this activity, each space will invite one or more producers of this delicacy of the region and, making the delight of all, to accompany the explanation of the production processes, we invite the audience to taste this rich endogenous capital. 19:15 – Sunset in the Castle | Music & Contemplation) Location: Cantinho Café and Pátio do Castelo 20:00 – Community Invites! | Community Dinner Location: Rua da Cadeia The result of a co-creation process with Chef Álvaro Costa, the Community is invited to serve a festive dinner to visitors. Using community cuisine for production, the challenge will be, in this region, to serve a dinner starting from the Jewish theme, removing the Pork and its derivatives from the menu. 22:00 – Concert | MANUEL DE OLIVEIRA, JOÃO FRADE & SANDRA MARTINS With the special participation of MARCO RODRIGUES Location: Palácio de Cristóvão de Moura (2 of the themes will result from local artistic residency) Manuel de Oliveira is back on stage to present “Entre-Lugar”. In concert, Manuel de Oliveira performs with João Frade on accordion, Sandra Martins on cello and Zecas (José Silva) on acoustic bass, to play “Entre – Lugar” and revisit some of the themes of “Ibéria” and “Amarte”. This concert also has the special participation of Marco Rodrigues. For “Entre-Lugar”, Manuel de Oliveira started from his recognized Iberian identity, adding colours and flavours from other places, crossing ethnic with urban, African music with fado, flamenco with tango a vast multicultural symbiosis. The viola Braguesa plays a determining role in this multiculturality, already previously explored in the album “Iberia” but here and now with a stronger and decisive presence. Braguesa, thanks to its sound somewhere between the dolence of the Portuguese Guitar and the exoticism of Mandola Árabe, gives “Entre-Lugar” its true meaning, of restless identity, without prejudice and at the same time full of authenticity among the places of Portuguese identity. In the Historical Village of Castelo Rodrigo, this group of artists will be in artistic residence, letting themselves be inspired to create two new themes that will be presented in this concert. DAY 3 – Sunday – August 29th – EXPLORING THE TERRITORY In the morning of the third and last day, we will discover the charms of the neighbouring villages of the region. 10:00 – Walkthrough PR3 and Tasting Snacks & Wines from the Adega at the Convento de Santa Maria de Aguiar. Using the PR1 invite those interested to travel this route enjoying the views over the territory and better understanding the geography of this unforgettable place. It is intended that the route is made in the downward direction, passing by the slope of almond trees – always overlooking the Convent -, entering later on the magnificent Vineyard of the Convent and ending in the Inn, where the forces can be refreshed by some snacks, freshwater, a visit to the Church of the Convent of Santa Maria de Aguiar – this example of Cistercian Architecture – and sparkling wine with the same name to end the feast in Beauty. We will toast with Sparkling Wine Convent of Aguiar Reserve!
