Lusitano Horse

One of the most important and historical activities of Alentejo is breeding the Lusitano Horse. A pure breed developed through centuries by the Portuguese people. Watch an amazing presentation of a unique breed of horses. During this day you will learn more about the true Lusitano horse, descendant from the most ancient lineages, watch a presentation of the attributes and capacities of this incredible animal, ridden by experienced horsemen dressed accordingly to old Portuguese traditions. Tour through the stud farm and learn all about their activities, walk through the “montados” (forest) of oaks, cork oaks, and the olive groves. Enjoy the landscapes of crops and visit the pastures for sheep and cattle as well the harem of mares running across the plains. Complete the day : Witness the past presence of primitive people in Alentejo, by visiting “Escoural Cave” one of the most emblematic archeologic sites in Alentejo. It´s a monument carved out by nature where you can observe painting and rock carve made by the Paleolithic men.
