Gastronomic Tour in Terceira Island – Azores

This circuit takes us on a gastronomic trip through Terceira Island. Departure in the morning from Angra do Heroísmo towards São Mateus da Calheta. This is the largest fishing village on the island and here we can visit the fish auction, a whaling museum and taste local fish and seafood. We head to Cinco Ribeiras parish where we stop at a local cheese factory, Queijo Vaquinha. At the factory, we can taste several kinds of cheese and typical bread from the Azores. Following the coast, we go to the parish of Serreta, where we stop for a typical lunch. In this restaurant, we will eat the most famous dish of Terceira Island, Alcatra. As well as sausage, black pudding, fried pork, liver baits, sweet potatoes and corn cakes. All done as our ancestors did. After lunch, nothing better than to head north and visit the wine-growing landscape of Biscoitos with the possibility to stop at the local winery to taste local wines and liqueurs. With a full belly, it is still lacking to taste the freshness of the ice cream from Quinta dos Açores with the possibility of seeing the factory.
