Descent of the Mondego River 18 km: Penacova – Torres do Mondego The most popular kayak descent in the country: unique conditions for everyone! With an extension of 18km, it starts at Açude da Carvoeira; 500m below the river beach of Penacova and ends at Torres do Mondego, 3 km below the river beach of Casal da Misarela. The entire route passes through the Mondego Natural Valley – in the middle of the forest – through the picturesque mountain villages of Ronqueira, Rebordosa, Louredo, Foz do Caneiro and Casal. This part of the river is full of small beaches on the banks, perfect for a break, a picnic or a swim. At the river beach bar you can also buy a small snack, a cold drink or an ice cream. This extension of the river usually has a slight current which makes it an attractive and accessible route for all ages!
