Starting and finishing in Melgaço, the peloton of cyclists will ride through the wine-growing sub-region of Monção & Melgaço “where the best vines of the noble and coveted Alvarinho grape variety are grown” and where cyclists will be able to choose between three routes, depending on the mileage and their level of preparation: the Minifondo, of 73 kilometers, the Mediofondo, of 103 kilometers and the Granfondo, with a total distance of 127 kilometers. The planned refueling stations will provide the perfect vantage point from which to set off on what remains to be covered: exhilarating descents and breathtaking scenery as grand as the eye can see. Like great passions, in this case there are many reasons that make up a feeling as strong, as penetrating as the noble nectar that is grown and produced in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço. First of all, the two towns that give the event its name – historic, beautiful and welcoming -; the imposing and impressive landscapes, as if painted on canvases by artist gods – the indomitable River Minho, the rivers of vineyards and the mountains sculpted by the cold winter. On September 17, 2023, stars and many more anonymous people will repeat their expressions of amazement at the event that defines the sub-region: for the union around the Alvarinho, the lands fed by the Minho and the great party that will be the Monção and Melgaço Granfondo.
