The Lisbon Eco-Marathon is the only marathon run entirely in the city of Lisbon. It places Portugal’s capital on the calendar of this type of benchmark race around the world. Ecology, Competition and Social Solidarity are the main aims of this race. In addition to the “mythical” distance of 42.195 kilometres, there is the possibility of running two other distances, the 21.1 kilometre Half Marathon and a 12 kilometre race, thus opening up the challenge to all types of athletes. Socialising and good humour are the watchwords. The races are held in the heart of the city – Monsanto Forest Park, on a route that minimises inconvenience for residents, due to the reduced need to cut roads, while at the same time making it one of the most striking courses for runners. To make this race a unique experience, we’ve added the practice of sport to the conviviality of all the participants, in a festive atmosphere in the centre of the capital. The Start venue coincides with the start and finish of the three distances, to welcome athletes and their families in a comfortable and fun way in an iconic space – Parque Eduardo VII, next to the flag of Portugal.
