The Alcobaça Band Association and the Municipality of Óbidos are promoting the return of the Óbidos Opera Festival
The revival of the festival will take place from 8 to 17 September at Quinta das Janelas in Óbidos.
The staging is by Jorge Balça and Carlos Antunes and the costumes are by Nuno Esteves (Blue) and Nuno Braz de Oliveira. The singers will be accompanied by the Óbidos Opera Festival Choir, conducted by Filipa Palhares, and the La Nave Va and Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestras, conducted by António Carrilho and Bruno Borralhinho respectively.
An auspicious return in a surprising location
The venue chosen to host the Óbidos Opera Festival is the marvellous and unusual Quinta das Janelas, in Gaeiras (Óbidos), whose construction dates back to the 16th century.
With this edition André Cunha Leal, the festival’s artistic director, hopes “that the Óbidos Opera Festival will not only recover its former glory, but also reach new heights and international aspirations” and leaves the invitation: “See you soon in Óbidos, where music echoes and hearts beat to the sound of opera.”
